Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Sea to Sky region with hazardous winter conditions expected.
A strong Pacific frontal system has spread snow to the Sea to Sky Highway and Whistler region this morning.
The snow is forecast to intensify tonight as the system nears the coast. Total snowfall accumulations of up to 30 cm are expected by Tuesday morning. The snow should change over to rain Tuesday as warmer air moves in from the south.
Environment Canada warns visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow, and weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
Meanwhile, a heavy rainfall warning has also been issued for Howe Sound. A moist Pacific frontal system is bearing down on the South Coast of BC.
Rain that has spread onto the coast will become heavy tonight as the system approaches. The heavy rain will continue through Tuesday morning and finally ease later Tuesday as the storm system leaves the region. Total rainfall accumulations of 60 to 90 mm are expected.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
