Whistler RCMP is investigating an incident in which a man tried to lure a child away by offering candy.
The incident happened on January 5 at approximately 5:20 pm, when the police received a report that a nine year old child had been approached by an unknown male who offered candy and a ride to the child.
Police learned that earlier in the day, around 1 pm, a nine-year-old was standing near a bus stop at the intersection of Balsam Way and Lorimer Road when male in a blue vehicle stopped and asked the child if he would like some candy.
The driver advised that the candy was in the back of the vehicle and offered to drive the child anywhere he wanted to go.
The child did the right thing and told the male no and walked away. The male left in the vehicle towards Highway 99.
The male is described as a 50 to 60 year old with shaggy grey hair. He was driving a blue sedan type vehicle.
Whistler RCMP are asking parents to speak to their children about never accepting a ride or offers of inducement from a stranger.
