Winter storm warning still in effect for Howe Sound

January 18, 2020 9:31am

The winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada is still in effect for Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky communities.

A strong Pacific storm has arrived with a mix of wintery weather including heavy snow, freezing rain, and blowing snow. The snow, however, will begin to transition to freezing rain over Howe Sound later today.

Total snowfall amounts of up to 20 cm are expected for Squamish while the route north of Squamish will receive 30 to 40 cm by Sunday morning.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
