Locals in downtown have reported the theft of T4 and other tax forms from their mailboxes to Squamish RCMP.
According to Squamish RCMP, T4s and tax forms were stolen from mailboxes on Village Green Way. Thefts were also reported from Edgewater.
Police didn’t say how many people reported the crime. Police is encouraging victims to report these kind of thefts as these forms have information that can be used to set up fraud accounts.
Reporting such crimes can also help identify suspects.
Police is also recommending that victims contact Equifax, banks, credit card companies, and Canada Revenue Agency to inform these organisations of the crime.
In an unrelated case, a local told the police that her lost debit card was used at a local business. Police is now seizing video from the business as part of its investigation.
Another suggestion by police is to also immediately report the theft of any wallet or bank cards to the credit card company and the bank.
Anyone with any information regarding the above files is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to website www.solvecrime.ca
