The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District will close Furry Creek beach access and dike trails today due to people not observing the social distancing guidelines.
The closure comes into place today and will remain until further notice.
Two public parking lots and public trail access to the dike along the waterfront will also be closed today.
The SLRD said it has been monitoring activity on the trails and has observed that many people are not maintaining a safe social distance of two metres or more.
“Our goal is to deter people travelling to the area from other communities and visiting the beaches in large groups, which is what we have been observing in recent days,” SLRD said.
“We encourage local residents to continue to exercise, as recommended by the Provincial Health Officer, however it is imperative for all to maintain the physical distancing practice of keeping at least two metres between people and not gathering in groups.”
