A 21-year-old Vancouver man has been charged in the killing of his mother, Barbara Waite, who was found dead in her home on Government Road yesterday.
On April 1, at 11:40 pm, Squamish RCMP was called to a home in the 40000 block of Government Road due to a ‘check well-being’ request.
Upon arrival, police located a deceased woman inside the home. She has now been identified as Barbara Waite.
Her son, Ryan Grantham, was arrested by Vancouver Police shortly after and now faces second degree murder charges.
The investigation is still in its infancy and IHIT investigators are actively completing priority tasks and collecting further evidence with the assistance of the Sea to Sky RCMP, the VPD, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroners Service.
Ryan Grantham will make his next appearance in B.C. Provincial Court in Vancouver on April 9.
“IHIT is grateful for the efforts of the Sea to Sky RCMP and the VPD for laying the groundwork for the investigation., said Sgt. Frank Jang, media relations officer for IHIT.
