The Squamish Valley fire could be 100 hectares in size although this is only an estimate, according to the latest update by BC Wildfire Service.
Yesterday, the BC Wildfire Service estimated the fire could be 60 hectares in size.
Spokesperson Donna McPherson said the fire sizes numbers are “pretty fluid” and based on the estimates provided by the firefighters.
“Right now, we have a low intensity ground fire. The fire will react to the temperature and the winds, but we do have more resources and crews are working hard to fight the fire,” she said.
The fire service will bring in 42 fire fighters, three helicopters, and three excavators to help with the fire suppression today, she added.
Meanwhile, Squamish RCMP said the Paradise Valley and Cheekeye Indigenous community will be the focus for today as RCMP and officers work door to door to ensure all those in the community are ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
Squamish RCMP are asking people to avoid the area.
