More than 120 residents of the Upper Squamish Valley who were evacuated on April 15 are returning to the area today.
SLRD lifted the evacuation order at 9 am today, enabling the return of residents four days after they had to leave their homes due to the fire.
SLRD said bottled water has been supplied to residents and emergency services continues to provide support to eligible residents who have been displaced.
An evacuation alert for a reduced area, however, remains in effect.
SLRD has also confirmed that structures on three property titles were lost to the fire, with more than one structure lost on some properties.
“We know this is very hard news for people to hear,” said SLRD Board chair Tony Rainbow. “This is devastating for those affected. We are extremely grateful that no one was injured.”
As of Sunday morning, the 203-hectare fire was 50% contained.
Meanwhile, the Squamish Valley Road remains closed to non-resident traffic with RCMP checkpoint in place.
“We really need people to respect the privacy of the community and not visit the area,” SLRD Chair Rainbow said.
The area also remains an active BC Wildfire Service and BC Hydro work zone.
