District of Squamish is in the process of swapping land with Church on 99 on the highway to enable access into the new Waterfront Landing project.
The district intends to transfer 0.214 hectare of road on Highway 99 to the church. In return, .30 hectares of church land will be given to the district, which will be dedicated as road and highway.
The district will receive $483,000 from the developer for the portion of land being transferred to the church, said Rachel Boguski, the communications coordinator for the district.
The district and BC Hydro currently have utilities in the closed road section that will be given right of ways on the title, she added.
The land swap is part of upgrades to the Clark Drive and Highway 99 intersection.
The existing intersection is being modified for a western connection to the Clarke Drive rail overpass, and a new vehicle bridge crossing over the rail line to the new subdivision.
Improvements to the east side of the highway intersection include improved bike and pedestrian infrastructure and realignment of Clark Drive, both on north and south side of the intersection.
The project is expected to be complete this year.
