The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed today, May 22, that investigators found Stewart McLean’s remains, the Lions Bay man who was reported missing earlier this week.

Mclean’s body was recovered in the Lions Bay area with assistance from the Squamish RCMP, the Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS), the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and Lions Bay Search and Rescue.

McLean was last seen at his Lions Bay home on May 15. When he hadn’t been heard from in three days, someone close to him reported him missing to Squamish RCMP on May 18. IHIT took over the investigation on May 20, after evidence suggesting a homicide was found.

Investigators are now canvassing for CCTV footage, conducting interviews and analyzing evidence to reconstruct McLean’s movements in the days leading up to his death.

“We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. McLean,” said Cpl. Esther Tupper, IHIT’s media relations officer.

IHIT is working alongside the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service to establish how McLean died. Investigators believe the killing was an isolated incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
