Terrill Patterson Memorial Fund set up at bottle depot

staff report
April 30, 2020 2:56pm

The “Terrill Patterson Memorial Fund” has been set up to honour the memory of the local icon who passed away on April 24.

The memorial fund is now open at the Squamish Bottle Depot on Queens Way.

The depot is only accepting donations of refundable containers. The account number for donations is 415.

Local citizen Steve Shard is behind the initiative and he hopes the town will support the fund. “I think it will be a fitting way for the community to honour Terrill’s memory,” Shard said.

Shard said he often discussed civic issues with Terrill in the council chambers or at public hearings. “Terrill was very astute and often held the district’s feet to fire. He was all for following due diligence and due process,” Shard said.

Shard said the town could also honour Terrill’s memory by renaming Queens Way in his name, a route often taken by Terrill.

Meanwhile, the Squamish Historical Society is hoping to create a mural commemorating Terrill Patterson with money raised from the donations at the depot.

“We are receiving many ideas but we all seem to agree that a mural would be the best choice so far. It will depend on how much money we raise,” said Bianca Peters, the president of the Squamish Historical Society.

Beyond the depot fund, people can also send donations to the Squamish Historical Society. A tax receipt will be issued.

The society is also seeking suggestions on how to best honour the memory of Terrill. You can email the suggestions to info@squamishhistory.ca.
