The council approved the plans on April 28 that would delay certain capital projects, such as the renovations at Brennan Park, to offset revenue losses expected due to the pandemic.
The district says it also wants to assure the community that it is committed to being fiscally responsible.
The renovation at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre is among several capital projects that have been delayed due to COVID-19.
Extension of Pioneer Way, SODC road and stormwater main project, improvements at rail crossings, water system replacement and dike rehabilitations are some of the capital project that district won’t undertake in 2020.
However, the district says it is important to note that the proposed delays do not affect its plan to work on long-term infrastructure projects.
“These are continuing significantly as planned, and will be undertaken normally. In future years these will continue to be prioritized over other delayed projects,” district said.
While the projects are generally postponed, the intent is not to load 2021 to catch up, but rather to keep the project load and tax revenue requisition realistic.
Mechanical upgrades at the RCMP detachment, decorative streetlights at Cleveland Avenue, and some traffic calming projects will be delayed.
