Collision on Highway 99 kills man in his 20s

staff report
May 4, 2020 6:07pm

A man in his 20s was killed in a collision on Highway 99 at Gonzales Creek Bridge, about three kilometres south of Shannon Falls.

Squamish RCMP was notified of the collision at 12 pm, and attended along with Sea to Sky Traffic Services, Squamish Fire Services, and BC Ambulance.

Police said the sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 20s from the Lower Mainland, was transported to a hospital in Vancouver by an Air Ambulance.

He died of his injuries at the hospital.

Squamish RCMP alongside the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Services (ICARS) are currently investigating the cause of the incident.

It may take sometime before an analysis of the vehicle and scene is complete, Squamish RCMP said.

Police are looking for anyone who may have seen the vehicle, a newer Black BMW Coupe, travelling northbound.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.

Meanwhile, the northbound lanes continue to be closed but traffic is flowing one lane in both directions from the southbound lane.

The northbound lane is expected to open by approximately 8 pm.
