I recently wrote to the council and I’m hoping they will implement some measures to address two dangerous blind corners on Wilson Crescent.
The first corner is located at the start of the one-way section of Wilson Crescent, where it intersects with McNamee Pl.
The second corner, which I consider to be more dangerous than the first because it is a truly blind corner, is a little further down the street.
As you may be aware, Wilson Crescent is a narrow street that is one way for the majority of the street. Fairly recent development in the area, such as The Current town-home complex, has meant that an increase in traffic is now using this street.
I do not know the long-term history of the area, having only lived here for two years. I assume, however, that given the new-ish appearance of the bike lane built on the left-hand side of the street opposite The Current, the lane was built to delineate the road and keep walkers and bike users safe around the same time that The Current was built.
However, it does not seem that any effort was made to address the safety of the residents who live on the initial section of the one-way street. Despite the same volume of traffic driving down that part of the street as the rest of the street.
I’d like council to strongly consider installing pylons on the corners themselves to prevent drivers from cutting the corners, similar to the ones installed on the corner of Queens Way and Government Road.
I would also like council to consider installing mirrors that allow drivers to see around the corners and creating a bike/walking lane on the left side of the initial part of the street too. I’m not sure why the initial section of the one-way street did not get the bike/walking lane when the other section did, but now would be a great time to rectify that.
I’d like to thank the council for all the hard work the council and staff are putting in to help Squamish through the COVID-19 pandemic. I have noticed all the measures being taken and applaud the leadership at the district.

How is it remotely relevant to mention that Squamish was a loggers town? South Africa was an Apartheid country. What’s your point?

That corner was very dangerous when we lived on Wilson Cres 12 years ago I can imagine it’s much worse now with all the extra development on the street. We lived on Wilson cres for 10years, the only one way street in Squamish! People used to go the wrong way all the time!

Nothing will be done until someone is hit and killed by one of the many speeding vehicles. I have had people tell me the speed limit is 50km. We have asked for speed bumps…..can’t remember the lame excuse from the District. It’s a one way narrow street with way too many cars parked on it thanks to our council for letting the developers get away with no on site parking.
