Impaired driver arrested in Downtown Squamish

staff report
July 29, 2020 6:25pm

Squamish RCMP arrested an impaired driver in Downtown Squamish, who later refused to provide a urine sample at the local detachment.

On July 17, at approximately 9:40 pm, Squamish RCMP responded to a complaint of an erratic driver on Cleveland Avenue.

Police located the driver who had visible signs of drug impairment. The driver failed a standard field sobriety test and was arrested for impaired driving.

He was taken to the local detachment, where he refused to provide a urine sample. He has been prohibited from driving for 90 days, and will be attending court to deal with his charge.

Theft from vehicle in Garibaldi Highlands

On July 19, Squamish RCMP were called to a complaint of theft from vehicle.

A resident had their unlocked car parked in the 1000 block of Jay Crescent, and their vehicle was broken into and rummaged through at night.

Although nothing much was taken except some change, Squamish RCMP are reminding people that no neighbourhood in Squamish is immune from this type of crime.

People should lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from their vehicles, police say.

Stolen truck and fraud

Police are reminding locals to keep track of old cheques and dispose them off appropriately after a man reported his old cheques were used fraudulently.

Two months ago, the man’s truck was stolen from Hemlock Avenue in Valleycliffe. There were some cheques in the truck and the man has now reported to the police that they were used recently.

“We have seen an increase in cheque fraud as of late, and we are reminding people to keep track of old cheques and dispose of them appropriately,” said Sgt. Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP.
