A cougar has been sighted on the Farside trail in Squamish, although there isn’t any public concern at this point.
Meg Toom, who works with the district as a wildlife educator, confirmed that the sighting was reported to the Conservation Officer Service hotline.
The Conservation Officer Service was called about a cougar seen on the Farside mountain biking trail, which is part of the Crumpit Woods trail system in Squamish.
Simon Gravel, a Conservation Officer for the Sea to Sky Zone, said cougars are often seen and reported in Squamish.
“In this case, no incident or public safety concerns at this point,” Gravel said.
Squamish is located in prime cougar habitat, according to the district, and dusk and dawn are typically times when cougars are most active.
“Cougars are active throughout the year and are elusive animals that prefer to avoid contact with humans. While conflict encounters are uncommon, it is important to be alert and aware.”
Stay safe and keep cougars wild by following these simple guidelines.

A small map or description of where the far side trail is would be more useful – not very helpful without all the information?
