District of Squamish has posted bear aware signage at the entrance of the Crumpit Woods trail network.
The signage has been posted to alert the public of a bear family, a sow and two cubs, in the area.
“Please provide this family with space and consider using an alternate trail,” district said.
Meanwhile, Conservation Officer Service continues to track the injured bear in Valleycliffe.
However, there is no update on the bear. “No update, no new report received,” said Simon Gravel, the officer for Sea to Sky.
There has also been an increase in bear activity related to fruit trees in Squamish, says Conservation Officer Service.
“In Squamish and across BC, Conservation Officers are seeing increased bear activity related to fruit trees,” the service said.
“Please make sure you are picking your fruit and securing attractants to avoid facing fines.”
Meanwhile, district is asking people to practice these tips from the trail user’s guide to wildlife:
Be alert and aware
Avoid surprise encounters by making noise and using your voice;
Carry bear spray and know how to use it;
Don’t take photos;
Back away;
Always leash your dog.
Sightings can be reported to the COS 24/7 hotline at 1.877.952.7277.
