Snowfall warning for Sea to Sky

staff report
October 21, 2020 6:20pm

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Sea to Sky area.

Early season snowfall can be expected on Friday as Arctic air arrives, and below seasonal temperatures will continue through the weekend.

Temperatures of 10 degrees below seasonal normal are expected.

Currently, forecast snowfall amounts range from about 2 to 10 cm.

A low pressure system will pass just off Vancouver Island Friday morning and move onto the Washington coast late in the day.

By Friday afternoon, the Arctic front is also expected to reach the Kamloops region and pile up against the east side of the Rockies.

With a somewhat cool airmass already in place, widespread snow is expected from the Chilcotin and 100 Mile area to the Fraser Canyon and eastward to the Kootenays.

The system will move out of the province on Saturday.

To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
