Wind warning issued for Squamish

staff report
November 16, 2020 12:50pm

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Howe Sound.

Strong gusty winds can be expected Tuesday morning. Gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible.

A rapidly deepening area of low pressure will pass north of Vancouver Island on Tuesday morning while a fast moving cold front crosses the south coast.

In advance of the cold front, strong sustained southeasterly winds are expected for coastal areas in proximity to the Strait of Georgia and Haro Strait.

As the front races across the area, widespread and powerful gusty southerly winds will occur.

Winds will ease considerably following the passage of the cold front but will remain gusty into Tuesday afternoon.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
