BC Parks says it will plow the road and parking lot to Rubble Creek and Diamond Head in Garibaldi park this winter to provide more outdoor recreation opportunities.
Drivers should be prepared for snow and slippery conditions, and must have winter tires and install chains to access the Diamond Head (Red Heather, Elfin Lakes) upper parking lot and Rubble Creek (Garibaldi Lake, Taylor Meadows) parking lot.
Conditions can change quickly in the winter, BC Parks warns.
“Be prepared for unexpected heavy snowfall and extreme winter driving conditions in an area with limited cell service,” BC Park said in an update.
Limited cell service and poor conditions means tow trucks can be slow to respond, BC Parks warns.
Stuck drivers can end up waiting for long periods of time, while also trapping other park visitors, preventing access to emergency responders like search and rescue, and preventing snowplows from clearing the road.
Meanwhile, vehicles blocking snow removal equipment on road will be towed at owners’ expense.
