Brewery / restaurant planned on Oceanfront Squamish

Oceanfront Squamish has applied to the district for a permit to open a brewery or a restaurant on the oceanfront.

A final decision has yet to be made.

According to district, Oceanfront Squamish has applied for a development permit for a presentation center and a public house.

The Presentation Center will act as the sales center.

The Public House will feature a restaurant or a brewery, providing both indoor and outdoor seating areas with views of the Oceanfront Park and water.

“We have applied for a DP for a Presentation Center, but the construction start date is subject to many items including permitting, further residential planning and park construction,” said John Matthews, Matthews West President.

“We are still in discussions with operators to determine the final tenant use,” he added.

“Our main goal is to create a vibrant gathering place with an outdoor patio for people to gather overlooking the newly constructed Oceanfront Park.”

The company has also applied for a height and parking variance.

“The variance for height is for number of storeys so we can provide a third floor viewing area that will provide 360 views of the development site, surrounding mountains and Howe Sound,” said Carlos Zavarce, Director of Development.

Oceanfront Squamish is seeking a variance for parking under the existing shared-use parking policy.

There are plans to submit an updated parking study that will be included in the submission to Council.

“Understanding the public’s interest in the project, Oceanfront Squamish will offer ample parking opportunities both at-grade and underground including at least 150 surface public parking stalls in close proximity to the Oceanfront Park.”

The company recently rebranded oceanfront development as Oceanfront Squamish with a new website where the proponents will share updates with the community.
