The BC Conservation Officer Service is advising trail users to avoid the Ross Road and Ray Peters trail network in the Brackendale area after reports that a grizzly bear sow and her cubs have returned to the area.
The District of Squamish posted the bear alert today.
According to the District’s social media post, warning signs have been posted at the main trailheads, and conservation officers are asking people to give the bears space. Trail users are advised to keep dogs on leash, carry bear spray, make noise, and remain alert for bear activity, according to the news release.
Residents are also being reminded to pick ripe and fallen fruit and keep food and garbage contained in bear-resistant totes and structures. Residents can report wildlife encounters to the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
