Squamish council candidate Laura Prosko has released a five-point campaign plan centred on housing, the local economy, major-project partnerships, community well-being and municipal finances.
Prosko is running for a seat on District of Squamish council in the October 17 municipal election. Her platform identifies the following priorities:
Housing, affordability, growth and infrastructure
Small business and a strong local economy
Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC partnerships
Safe, healthy and connected communities
Good governance and tax dollars
In announcing the plan, Prosko said the next council’s decisions will affect housing, infrastructure, affordability, community services and municipal finances for years. She described fiscal responsibility as the central theme of her campaign, calling for clear priorities and long-term investment in infrastructure, services and the local economy.
“We can be ambitious about where we’re going while being disciplined in how we get there,” Prosko said.
Prosko says she has more than 15 years of senior leadership experience involving local government, infrastructure and energy projects, Indigenous and community engagement, economic development and communications.
According to her campaign, she has worked on three major projects in British Columbia with a combined value exceeding $27 billion. Her work included building relationships among communities, Indigenous partners, governments and industry.
Prosko currently serves as the executive director of a business improvement association, where her work includes advocacy for small businesses and developing partnerships among business, government and community organizations.
“I bring the experience to lead, the relationships to build partnerships and the ability to turn priorities into action,” she said.
