Military helicopter rescues skiers from Mamquam Lake area

Staff report
February 11, 2021 8:47pm

A military helicopter had to be called in from Comox to rescue two skiers from the Mamquam Lake area.

One of the skiers was taken to the hospital with a leg injury, confirmed BJ Chute, the SAR manager.

The skiers were camping and skiing in the Mamquam Lake area.

Both the skiers are from Squamish.

“Squamish SAR was called out to the incident at approximately 10:45 am today, but were unable to fly due to the weather,” Chute said.

A special helicopter had to be called from Comox to rescue the men, who were both experienced skiers and used a satellite device to call police.
