Momma bear and cubs in estuary; keep dogs on leash

Staff report
February 25, 2021 8:02pm

District of Squamish has issued an alert after a mother and her yearlings were seen in the estuary.

“Recent sightings of a mother/sow bear and two yearlings in the Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area (WMA) are prompting a reminder to residents that dogs must be on leash within the WMA at all times,” district said.

“Please provide wildlife with respect and space, keep dogs leashed and stay on trail.”

The District of Squamish Bylaw and Conservation Officer Service (COS) are patrolling the area.

Please report all wildlife sightings to the 24/7 Conservation Officer Service hotline at 1.877.952.7277.

In October last year, the estuary trails were shut down following a bear attack.
