The Squamish legion is receiveing $11,900 in funding from the federal government.
The announcement was made yesterday by Patrick Weiler, MP for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country.
As much as $91,715 in funding from the Government of Canada will go towards support legions across his riding.
Weiler made the announcement on behalf of Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.
The funding will assist legions in West Vancouver and Squamish with their operational costs so they can continue providing important support for Veterans.
This funding is being delivered through the Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund, part of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan.
“Legions play a critical role in the well-being of Veterans, their families and the community, and so we know how important it is to support them,” Weiler said.
“Legions are important gathering places for veterans and community members alike. It speaks to their value that they are typically self-sustaining while providing a key service to the community,” he said.
“Veterans can trust that people in these legions understand what kind of toll serving our country can take and that they can turn to the legion community if they need to.”
