The District of Squamish will be renovating the Bailey Bridge, a crucial link to Paradise Valley.
District said its Annual Bridge Inspection identified deficiencies with the existing abutments at the Paradise Valley Bailey Bridge.
The report recommended the abutments be replaced.
Replacement work will include a pre-design in 2020 and construction will begin this year.
The bridge is the only access point for residents north of Fergie’s restaurant and is a critical evacuation route in the event of a flood event, says the district.
Flood and debris flow remain the biggest hazards in the area, and the community has the potential to become isolated due to flooding and other natural hazard.
Previous floods have washed out roads and bridges and cut off access to the valley, SLRD notes.
