District working to obtain large facility for mass vaccination

The District of Squamish is working to obtain a larger facility for mass vaccination clinics and will be announcing the details in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, district is working with VCH provide facilities for COVID-19 vaccination clinics that begin next week.

The 55 Activity Centre at 1201 Village Green Way in Downtown Squamish will be used for the vaccination of seniors age 80+ beginning March 15.

District will provide cots, blankets and community contacts to support the VCH effort.

Beginning today, Monday, March 8, phone lines will open for Squamish and Sea to Sky seniors age 80 and over to book COVID-19 vaccination appointments.

Most VCH vaccination clinics will be open seven days a week, between 9 am to 5 pm, with evening appointments also available at some locations.

Dedicated sites have also been established for Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit), which will offer services that are culturally safe, with ceremonial plans in place.

Eligible seniors and Indigenous peoples are invited to call VCH’s appointment booking phone line at 1.877.587.5767.

“There is an unprecedented need for mass vaccination facilities over the coming months, and we are very pleased to work in partnership with VCH and to play a role in the significant effort being made across the entire province as we all join forces to help us emerge from the pandemic,” says Mayor Karen Elliott.

Squamish has been designated as a mass immunization site to serve the area.
