District of Squamish has hired a consultant to do a realignment analysis for the Tantalus Road Intersection.

The contract was awarded for $22,270.

The consultant will now complete an analysis of the Tantalus and Garibaldi Way Intersection and area.

The district also has plans to install a traffic signal at Garibaldi Way and Tantalus Road.

The consultant is expected to provide realignment recommendations that will improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

According to the contract, the consultant is expected to develop a minimum of three viable realignment options with cost estimates.

According to the Multi-Modal Transportation Plan, the Garibaldi Way and Tantalus Road intersection is a major connection to north Garibaldi Estates and is experiencing significant growth.

“The intersection and the immediate area around Tantalus Road and Garibaldi Way is a complicated intersection for both pedestrians and vehicles due to increasing volume of traffic from development, access to the Highway, and multiple access points from nearby businesses,” says the district.

It says it has received numerous accounts of near-misses in this vicinity and has highlighted increasing safety of traffic flow in this area as a top priority.

Crosswalk safety, cyclist and pedestrian movement in the area, transit bus stops close to the intersection, and several businesses close to the intersection have all been identified as issues the consultant will take into consideration.

Wow, thousands of dollars for this!

It’s simple, put an underpass at the end of Tantalus Road to allow for access to the highway in both directions.

Similar to London Drugs turn off on the highway they should have one for Independent as well so that Northbound traffic can access without utilizing the intersection.

Move the bus stop that in front of the Chevron further down the street and put a traffic light on Tantalus Road and time it with the Traffic lights on the Sea to Sky Highway.

Now can I get my 22 thousand please, its not rocket science people!!!
