Vaccination clinics to be set up in Squamish, a ‘high-transmission’ community

Squamish is one among 13 communities in BC with the ‘highest identified transmission’ in community.
In response, the Government of BC will establish specific AstraZeneca vaccine clinics in these 13 communities, and those above 40 are being asked to register here.

Squamish and Kensington neighbourhood in Vancouver are the only two in the Vancouver Coastal Health region that were classified as ‘highest identified transmission.’

Those above 40 and above can also book their AstraZeneca vaccine at five local pharmacies.

Other communities that were classified as hot spots are: Dawson Creek, West Newton, East Newton, Whalley, North Delta, Panorama, South Langley Township, West Abbotsford, North Surrey, Port Coquitlam, Squamish, Kensington and Fleetwood.

BC is also extending the current restrictions and putting new restrictions on vacation and recreation travel outside the health authority.

“Our hospitals are stretched, our health-care workers exhausted. They are taking care of our friends and loved-ones and we need to take care of them through our actions, so they can continue to do their jobs for us,” BC says.

“Let’s do our part, to use our layers, to stay local and err on the side of caution, so we can put COVID-19 behind us.”

As many as 1,380,160 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca-SII vaccines have been administered in BC.

“We are doing this after a careful review of the evidence that initially led to a pause in the expanded AstraZeneca vaccine program for younger workers,” BC says.

I had my first vaccine, Pfizer, do I have to wait for Pfizer for my second shot? I am 77 years old

Hi Daniele, yes in order for the Pfizer shot to stimulate a proper immune response your second shot must also be from Pfizer. You do have some immune protection from your first shot, but it is the second that provides the most meaningful effects. Was the date of your second shot scheduled when you got your first?
