Sea to Sky Community Services and School District 48 have worked together to create 16 new childcare spaces for children ages 30 months to 5 years.
The childcare program will operate at Brackendale Elementary School and is set to open early September 2021.
It will open from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 5 pm.
The 2018 Squamish Child Care Needs Assessment and Strategy found that 70% of parents in town felt that there is not an adequate supply of childcare spaces.
As many as 25% of those parents had children on a childcare waitlist.
Sea to Sky Community Services Executive Director Jaye Russell says the society is very pleased for the ongoing partnership with SD48 and the opportunity to open up this new full day childcare space in September.
“At SSCS, it is our priority that we play a role as a key strategic partner and provider of childcare in Squamish,” she says.
“It is gratifying for us at SD48 to have the opportunity to partner with SSCS to provide families with much needed childcare spaces at Brackendale Elementary School,” said Cynthia Higgins, SD48 Board of Education Trustee.
