A United Way grant is helping residents of Hilltop House long-term care home to be active again.
The COVID pandemic has been particularly difficult for the residents of Hilltop House long-term care home as visits to family and friends were restricted.
Also curtailed were activities outside the community, including the exercise classes residents used to regularly attend in town.
United Way pitched in with a relief grant and that has allowed the Hilltop House Support Society to buy a recumbent bike and various fitness equipment including dumbbells and a pedal exerciser, says Christina Musselwhite, the president of the society.
The Society was also able to purchase an iPad and interactive companion pets to provide residents with additional social interaction and face-time contact with family and friends.
“We are very grateful to United Way as the exercise equipment has been beneficial for the members and the iPad has helped the residents maintain contact with friends and family,” says Musselwhite.
Musselwhite is also thankful to Alisa Brownlee, the Hilltop physiotherapist, for filling in the grant request.
“Alisa and all the staff members have made extraordinary efforts to keep the residents safe while striving to maintain their quality of life and they deserve our appreciation,” she says.
