Warning after cougar seen near Mamquam River dike

Staff report
June 5, 2021 12:37pm

The Conservation Officer Service is alerting about a cougar that was seen in the dike area along the Mamquam River.

It was seen west of Government Road and behind the dog pound and the District’s Public Works Yard, at the confluence with Squamish River.

This is the same area where an alert was issued about a defensive bear earlier this week.

“This is a reminder that wildlife can and should be anticipated whenever you are out on the trails and adjacent to natural areas,” district said.

“Make noise and keep dogs on leash. You never want to surprise wildlife.”

Wildlife sightings and encounters can be reported to the BC Conservation Officer Service 24-hour hotline at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP).
