Tantalus Wellspring Society organizes paddle boarding, running events

The local non-for-profit Tantalus Wellspring Society is organizing paddle boarding and running events to ensure Sea to Sky residents have access to activities and services that support mental health.

The events aim to fundraise and help locals get respite from the mental stress of the ongoing pandemic, according to Julia Bresalier.

This spring, the society partnered with Norm Hann Expeditions, and Tina Currie of Coastal Stoke to offer four Stand Up Paddle Boarding sessions.

The final, two-hour session being held during National Indigenous History month is on June 27 at Nexen Beach.

It will be offered by Ḵálḵalilh-Deanna Lewis, and participants will learn about Squamish Nation history, language, legends, waters, plants and more.

This session is open to everyone. The cost is by sliding scale.

Throughout July, two experienced runners from Tantalus Wellspring Society, Michelle Honsberger and Kate Chalmers, will be leading a fun and engaging beginners trail running clinic in partnership with local business Capra Running Room and supported by Mountain Fitness Gym.

The 4-week series will focus on learning the basics of trail running technique, trail running apparel, footwear and fueling, trail etiquette and exploring new trails.

Details and registration can be found on the TWS events page.

“I have always found getting out on the trails on my lunch break to be a huge release and way to take a proper mental break during my work day”, says Kate Chalmers of the society.

Please visit tantaluswellspring.ca for more on the society, to make a donation or to register for the events. All donations go towards subsidizing these events, Bresalier says.
