staff report
June 24, 2021 3:53pm

The District of Squamish and the Conservation Officer Service (COS) has issued a wildlife alert in town after a mother bear charged two residents.

COS and the district are informing residents about a defensive behaviour by a mother with two cubs in the Estuary Trails.

This bear has charged two residents in the area, district said.

The public is being asked to avoid the area if possible and to keep dogs on leash at all times.

Please continue to report any wildlife sightings or encounters into the Conservation Officer Service Hotline at 1.877.952.7277.

The Estuary is a large area so which part do we avoid or what trail names ? Near the Spit or not ?

Do you think the bear knows the names of the trails ? Or maybe the cubs have n’t learnt which side is up or down. It’s her area at a time of high anxiety for the mother so why not just keep away for now eh!
