BC Parks won’t supply toilet paper in Sea to Sky backcountry

Staff report
June 25, 2021 11:34am

As of July 1, BC Parks will no longer supply toilet paper to several backcountry locations in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

BC Parks will not be providing toilet paper at Elfin Lakes, Rampart Ponds, Garibaldi Lake, Taylor Meadows, Helm Creek, Cheakamus Lake, Singing Creek, Russet Lake, Wedgemount Lake, and Joffre Lakes.

Front country washrooms and outhouses at trailheads, however, will continue to stock toilet paper.

“Toilet paper in the backcountry often ends up being used by rodents in their nests, and it contributes to unsanitary conditions in outhouses and littering in the park,” BC Parks said.

Park users have been encouraged to bring their own toilet paper into the backcountry for years, BC Parks added.

As of June 23, 2021, free day-use passes will be required to visit five of BCs busiest parks, including Garibaldi Provincial Park and Stawamus Chief.

Passes are available to book starting at 7 am, one day in advance of your planned visit.

Great movement …. was surprised that they ever did supply same … Remember when camp wood was supplied at some Park camp sites and at the end of the usage, the parasites of society took home a load.

Pack it in, pack it out or if your allowed campfires – burn it.

I much prefer bringing my own TP anyways, the stuff in the parks pit toilets is so thin it’s useless
