A gas leak in Downtown Squamish has been contained, according to the news release.

The leak, located at Pemberton Avenue and Fourth Avenue, was first reported at 10:23 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2026, when the District of Squamish issued a Squamish Alert. According to the news release, emergency crews responded and established a one-block safety perimeter around the leak, with the incident site closed to traffic.

During the initial alert, residents and businesses in the area were asked to avoid the incident area, close all windows and doors, eliminate ignition sources, refrain from smoking, and not start or run vehicles in the area.

An update issued at 12:02 p.m. on Tuesday confirmed the leak had been contained and that the risk to public safety had ended, the news release noted. The area remains closed to traffic until repairs are completed.
