The Squamish Public Library has launched a new holds pick-up locker at Brennan Park Recreation Centre. The locker is located in the front foyer of the newly renovated facility and gives patrons an alternative location to collect materials they have placed on hold.
According to the news release, the locker is entirely self-service. Patrons can select Brennan Park as their preferred pick-up location when placing items on hold, then scan their library card and enter their password at the locker to have a door automatically pop open. A return bin is located next to the locker, allowing patrons to return items at the same location.
The library release notes that adding a locker has proven successful in neighbouring communities, as it prioritizes convenience and choice. Both Gibsons and District Public Library and North Vancouver District Public Library have pick-up lockers located in their community recreation centres.
“Our well-loved downtown location sees a high level of daily traffic, but we know it is not convenient for everyone,” said Hilary Bloom, Director of Library Services, in the news release. “By offering an alternative, central location with extensive open hours, we are making library services more accessible to a larger portion of our community. All you need is a library card!”
