Yesterday was another record-setting hot day in Squamish.
According to Environment Canada, Squamish sizzled at 41.2 C on June 27, a new daily maximum temperature record for the community.
The previous record was 32.3, which was set in 2015, and records have been kept since 1960 in the area.
Whistler also created a new daily maximum temperature heat record, recording 40.2 C. The old record was of 34.8 C, which was set in 2015.
Records have been kept in the area since 1950.
The Lytton Area recorded the hottest temperature ever recorded in the country. The area recorded 46.6 C yesterday.
The previous heat record for Canada was for 45 C, and was set in 1937, in Yellow Grass and Midale in Saskatchewan.
The cooling centres set up by the District of Squamish is open at The 55 Activity Centre (Great Room)
It will be open today, Monday, June 28, from 11 am to 6 pm, and then on Tuesday, June 29, from 11 am to 6 pm.
Record-high temperatures expected in the Lower Mainland tomorrow will continue until at least Tuesday, June 29, 2021, with daytime highs ranging from 29 to 39 degrees C combined with overnight lows of 18 to 21 degrees celsius.
Humidex values during this period will reach the high 30s to possibly the low 40s. High temperatures are historically associated with an increase in deaths among Lower Mainland residents..
