Squamish RCMP have arrested a man who tried to run over officers after an attempted theft in Garibaldi Highlands.
On June 29, 2021 at about 4:15 a.m., Squamish RCMP responded to a theft of truck in the 2300 block Greenwood Way. Two officers on foot located the male suspect driving the stolen truck.
The man tried to run over officers, but they dodged him and avoided injuries.
The man crashed the truck into a ditch then fled on foot, but officers were able to locate him. He was arrested for multiple offences.
Police believe this male was involved in a series of thefts from cars along Condor Rd., Pia Rd., Greenwood Rd., and Highland Way North.
Police are asking area residents to check if they have anything missing from their properties and cars, to check home security footage if available, and to report anything out of ordinary to police. Police want people to know that no information is too small to report, as all pieces help inform what happened.
“We’re proud of our members who maintained their own and community safety as they faced great harm in arresting this man, and we’re glad multiple people reported suspicious activity,” says Cpl. Angela Kermer of the Squamish detachment.
