Lillooet wildfire: SLRD declares state of emergency

staff report
July 7, 2021 11:29am

A State of Local Emergency has been declared for Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) Electoral Areas A, B, C and D in response to the wildfire emergency in the SLRD.

Currently there are wildfires burning in three of the four SLRD Electoral Areas, with two areas in Electoral Area B on Evacuation Order and one on Evacuation Alert.

There is ongoing high-to-extreme risk anticipated for the rest of the 2021 wildfire season.

The local emergency is the legal instrument by which the SLRD implements Evacuation Orders and any other area restrictions recommended by the RCMP or BCWFS in connection to the ongoing wildfire emergency response.

Under the current legislation, the emergency must be renewed every seven days, and can be extended for as long as needed.

If you see a wildfire, campfire violation or open burning violation, please call 1 800 663-5555 toll free or dial *5555 on a cellphone
