BC Parks has issued a warning about an aggressive bear in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
There have been reports of an aggressive bear in the area around Cheakamus Lake and Singing Creek campgrounds.
Day users and overnight campers are advised to make noise while hiking on the trail, and carry bear spray at all times.
Food, stoves, dishes, and any other smelly attractants must be either attended or stored in the provided bear hangs at all times.
Bears are also destroyed every year due to campers neglecting to properly manage their attractants, BC Parks says.
“It is illegal to leave food and/or garbage unsecured and unattended. Campers failing to ensure their camp is secure of attractants may be evicted from the park and issued a violation ticket under the BC Wildlife Act. Please do your part to ensure the safety of your family, fellow campers, and the local bears, by keeping a clean camp”
“Do not be the reason why a bear is destroyed”
