Bear killed by vehicle on Sea to Sky Highway

Staff report
July 20, 2021 9:22am

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has confirmed a bear was hit and killed by a vehicle on the Sea-to-Sky highway.

The incident happened on July 18 after Tantalus Lookout.

The bear was removed by road maintenance contractor, Miller Capilano.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service was not involved, said a spokesperson from Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Last week, a mother bear had to be euthanized after being severely injured by a vehicle on the highway in West Vancouver.

The North Shore Black Bear Society said a female bear was severely injured by a vehicle on Highway 1, at Exit 4 in Caulfeild in West Vancouver.

It appears she was producing milk for at least one cub who has not been located, the society said.
