BC Wildfire crews have made good progress on the Mill Creek fire near the Woodfibre site.
Although the fire is still considered out of control, it has been reduced to rank 1, said Marg Drysdale, fire information officer.
“This is now rank 1 fire, which means it is smoky ground, ankle deep, and there is little bit of smoke, largely right in the centre of the perimeter of the fire,” she said.
She said what has complicated the response is the fact the fire is near the hydro pole.
She said the wildfire service is now working with BC Hydro.
“There is a lot of shrub area and it is unsafe for crews to work there. We are now working in concert with BC Hydro to safely extinguish the fire,” she said.
The fire is .15 hectare in size, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. As many as 11 crew members and a helicopter is working to extinguish the fire.
“The cause of the fire still remains undetermined, and we are investigating it,” she added.
