The wildfire north of Squamish has grown to 8.3 hectares, but it has been downgraded to a rank 1 fire, which means it is a smouldering ground fire. Rank 1 means there is no open flame, and there is slow rate of fire speed.
The North Cloudburst Fire in Squamish Valley is located about 20 kilometres north-west of Squamish.
Yesterday, it was ranked 3, but the ranking has now been downgraded.
“It is the lowest ranking, and it means the fire activity is low, the activity has calmed down on this wildfire although we have the same resources allocated to the fire,” said Dorthe Jacobsen, a fire information officer with the Coastal Fire Centre.
The fire is suspected to be human-caused. She is also urging community members to promptly report any fire in the region.
“We have had a more than a few fires in our region, but not as many as the interior because the public has been responsible and have reported anything suspicious to the fire centre,” she said.
