From August 15 to 21, as many as 16 new COVID-19 new cases were reported in the region, according to the latest weekly data issued by the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
Last week, there were 22 cases that were reported in the health region.
From Aug 1 to 7, zero new cases were reported, and 2 cases reported in the week before that.
Howe Sound health region comprises Squamish, Britannia Beach, Whistler, and Pemberton and its rural areas.
The province is appealing to people to get a COVID-19 shot, as unvaccinated people are at significantly greater risk of severe outcomes.
The Province has recorded a significant increase in the number of vaccine registrations and bookings for first doses, particularly among people under the age of 40.
“Getting vaccinated is the most important step we can all take to move out of this pandemic, and the momentum this week is positive news,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. “I am pleased that people are heeding our call to roll up their sleeve to help stop the spread of COVID-19. But there’s more work to do, and I encourage everyone to make the best choice to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community – get vaccinated.”
