Another campground in Garibaldi park closed due to bear

staff report
August 30, 2021 10:46am

Another campground at Garibaldi Provincial Park has been closed by BC Parks.

Due to increased bear activity, the Taylor Meadows campground will be closed from Sept 1 until Oct 31.

Park users will not be able to book campsites through discover camping, camp in the campground during the closure, or use the day shelters.

BC Parks and Conservation Officers are monitoring bear activity during the closure.

Trails through the area and toilet facilities will remain open, through this may change if the bear behaviour escalates to pose a threat to public safety.

On August 26, BC Parks had shut down Cheakamus Lake Trail, Cheakamus Lake Campground, and Singing Creek campground due to an aggressive, food-conditioned bear.

Helm Creek campground remains open, but it’s not accessible via Cheakamus Lake. Current access is only via Rubble Creek (Garibaldi Lake, Taylor Meadows, Panorama Ridge).
