New transit facility in Squamish to cost $38 million

A proposed transit maintenance facility in Squamish is expected to cost $38 million.

Transit route expansion in town and regional transit can’t be achieved without the new facility, says district.

There will be an anticipated 1.4% tax increase in 2026 to fund the Transit Maintenance Investment.

The proposed facility will be approximately 28,000 square feet and will be ideally situated on five acres of land.

District says the facility is required so transit services can be expanded beyond 2025 when the current facility in the business park reaches capacity.

The expanded facility will also enable the electrification of the entire fleet.

BC Transit will build the facility and requires that a municipality provide a commitment five years in advance.

BC Transit is offering $15million in funding, and the district will pitch in $12 million with the rest of it coming from grants.

The District has the option to make a one-time upfront payment of $12 million or an annual payment of approximately $530K over 30 years.

Guess that explains the salary amount for CAO …. have to pay out of line wages to receive out of line decisions. But please be careful as if something is said that causes an emotional result, a severance package will be upcoming. Think it is time to explain what good has come from paying such a wage and benefit package ….. and please do not compare to other locals, that has nothing to do with the wages for a job description in Squamish. …. I am sure if a search was performed you could find another City Hall that is a happy place to be and the Chief is not in that pay category. .
