Call for Squamish Nation artists for Mamquam Blind Channel pedestrian bridge

Staff report
November 16, 2021 6:16am

Squamish Nation is looking for artists for the Mamquam Blind Channel Pedestrian Bridge.

The call for Squamish Nation artists is to acknowledge Squamish Nation culture by integrating it into the new blind channel lift bridge that will connect Downtown Squamish to the SEAandSKY neighbourhood on the east side of the Mamquam Blind Channel.

The project will be constructed by the family-run team at BlueSky Properties, in partnership with Kingswood Properties, and will be owned, maintained and operated by the District of Squamish.

The deadline for electronic submissions is December 1 at 5 p.m.

“This legacy project is an opportunity for an emerging Squamish Nation artist or artist team to make their mark on a longstanding piece of community infrastructure,” says the District.

This project is presented by Squamish Nation, District of Squamish, and BlueSky Properties. A single artist or artist team may submit a proposal. The total contract value is for $10,000.00.

Elements to include could be visual motifs, images, words, or a combination, and materials used are to be metal and concrete.
