December marks the start of the Squamish RCMP campaign against impaired driving. Squamish RCMP says drivers can expect an increase in police resources targeting impaired drivers.
Every hour in Canada, about 10 criminal charges and provincial licence suspensions are issued for alcohol or drug-impaired driving.
In BC, 65 people die every year from impaired driving related crashes, with about half of those during holiday times on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
“Arranging transit, taxi, rideshare, or designated drivers will help keep festivities fun and responsible, and are the best alternatives to arriving home in a police car,” says Corporal Angela Kermer of the Squamish RCMP.
“We want people to have fun and get home safely as we wish those we serve a safe and happy holiday season.”
Anyone with any information regarding any crime is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to the http://www.solvecrime.ca
